Description:The Nurse Anesthesia Program Director is a full-time
member of the Lourdes University College of Nursing facultywith all
the rights and responsibilities of a faculty appointment. The
Program Director is responsible for providingleadership in the
areas of curriculum and program development, implementation, and
evaluation of the NurseAnesthesia Program. This person is
responsible for community outreach to clinical agencies in the
negotiation ofcontracts for student clinical placement and the
recruitment. Program Director is a member of the graduate
faculty.Appointment contract and teaching responsibilities are
assigned by the Provost and is a twelve (12) month
contract.Selected responsibilities include but are not limited to
the following:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Program Leadership1.Assures the development,
implementation, and evaluation of a curriculum of study leading to
a Doctor of NursingPractice degree with a concentration in nurse
anesthesia.a. Assumes overall responsibility for meeting the Nurse
Anesthesia program purpose, objectives, and goals.b. Prepares the
schedule of Nurse Anesthesia program classes and assignment of
teaching responsibilities incollaboration with the Assistant
Program Director(s).c. Reviews the quality of the curriculum with
faculty, students, and other stakeholders.d. Assures the
acquisition of library and other educational resources needed for
the effective implementationof the Nurse Anesthesia Program.e.
Completes program evaluation and assessment reports and
communicates findings to the Dean of theCollege of Nursing and
Social Sciences and General Nursing Assembly as appropriate.f.
Analyzes the overall effectiveness of the Nurse Anesthesia program
faculty teaching and clinicalagency evaluation as appropriate.
2. Follows the College of Nursing and Social Sciences policies and
procedures, establishes criteria for studentregistered nurse
anesthetists (SRNA) admissions, academic progress and graduation
by:a. Supervising the process of student recruitment and selection
committee members.b. Providing information to students regarding
the policies and procedures of the College and programc. Serving as
advisor for students in the Nurse Anesthesia Program.d.
Participating in periodic review of policies and procedurese.
Assuring that Nurse Anesthesia Program student records are
maintained including academic, healthand professional, and other
relevant databases.
3. Serves as mentor to students and graduate faculty in the
research/scholarship process. In addition, providesinformation and
resources for students entering or advancing in the profession.
4. Convenes and facilitates meetings with NAP faculty and the Dean
of the College of Nursing and Social Sciences.
Administrative Responsibilities
1.Collaborates with the Dean of the College of Nursing and Social
Sciences in the development and implementationof the Nurse
Anesthesia Program budget to maintain adequate resources.
2. Serves on: 1) Nurse Anesthesia Program Committees, 2) GNC
Committee, 3) College of Nursing and SocialSciences Committee (s),
University wide committee (s), and 4) the Graduate Executive
Council (GEC) asappropriate.
3. Directs the collection and storage of Nurse Anesthesia program
documents and course materials, i.e., coursenotebooks, sample
papers, class lists, syllabi, etc.
4. Supervises hiring process of Nurse Anesthesia Program adjunct
faculty and staff and coordinates orientation ofnew faculty members
to the Nurse Anesthesia program.
5. Assists the Dean of the College of Nursing and Social Sciences
to secure and maintain appropriate programaccreditation.
6. Prepares regular reports of program progress to internal and
external stakeholders and accrediting organizations(COA, CCNE).
Collaborates with other University departments to apply for outside
funding opportunities.
7. Submits Graduate Curriculum and Policy (GCAP) applications as
appropriate to the Graduate Executive Council.
8. Collaborates with Dean of the College of Nursing and Social
Sciences regarding graduate program issues andpolicies.
9. Supervises Nurse Anesthesia Program Assessment process.
Fulfillment of Role of Faculty1. Engages in teaching, scholarship
and service.2. Teaching workload is assigned by the Provost.3.
Engages in professional development.a. Maintains certificationb.
Has current membership in the American Association of Nurse
Anesthetists (AANA)c. Attends appropriate departmental, college and
professional meetingsd. Keeps current with anesthesia literaturee.
Participates in the administration of anesthesia as administrative
duties allowRequirements:1. Must be a graduate of an accredited
school of nursing.2. Must be a graduate of an accredited program of
nurse anesthesia.3. Must have a doctoral degree from an accredited
college or university.4. Maintain a valid, current RN license and
appropriate credentials (certificate of authority and
certificationas a CRNA) to practice in Ohio.5. Experience of at
least five years in the practice of nursing as a CRNA.6. Current
knowledge and at least two years of experience in curriculum
development, testing andimplementation of a CRNA Program.7.
